Mystery Monday: # 3, Preparation

Good morning! I am going to go ahead and give you the fabric requirements and the cutting instructions for Mystery Monday #3. We will NOT start on this for TWO weeks. That means, you have TWO weeks (March 16th) to purchase and cut the pieces for this next Mystery Monday. It is a big one and it’ll take a minimum of twelve weeks to piece. There will be two versions: Small (finishes at 50″ x 64″) and Large (finishes at 64″ x 92″). I did not measure to a bed. I am going to make the LARGE one and use it as a throw quilt this summer while I am out and about, playing with my boys.

Fabric Requirements:

SMALL SIZE

  • Red #1: 2 3/8 yards
  • Red #2: 7/8 yard
  • White: 1 7/8 yard
  • Blue: 3/4 yard

LARGE SIZE

  • Red #1: 3 5/8 yards
  • Red #2: 1 1/4 yard
  • White: 3 yards
  • Blue: 1 3/8 yard

This is a patriotic quilt so keep that in mind when you select your colors. Red #1 will be used for borders, sashing and binding. Select something you would enjoy seeing so much of in the quilt.

I actually shopped at JoAnn fabrics for this quilt top. I do not begrudge anyone who shops at WalMart or JoAnn fabrics; however, I typically shy away from it because I’ve noticed problems with shrinkage and warping when ironing the fabric as I create my quilts. I will remember this and keep an eye on the iron not being too hot while I do this quilt top. Total price for everything listed above was $67 after using a $15 off coupon.

I’ll see ya in two weeks! Keep an eye on this post. As I fiddle around with it more, this post may be updated. If there is a major change, I will post separately so no one misses it.
