Update

Went to court today. Here’s what happened.

  1. My attorney quit. Financial reasons combined with my refusal to follow his instructions. He instructed me to adhere to the court ruling to attend mediation. I informed him I lacked the funding to attend (can’t attend if have no funds, that’s the rules). He said that I refused to follow his advice and that’s why he was quitting.
  2. Judge ordered me to attend mediation and offered a stern warning if I did not comply this time. I let her know I didn’t have the funds. She didn’t care. Quote, “It’ll save the courts’ time and your own funds if you just find the money to attend. Do it.”
  3. I have 20 days to get the money to hire a new attorney or file that I will represent myself. If I don’t, she (the Judge) will enter a default ruling awarding anything that ex #2 wants.
  4. The opposing attorney said he’d be glad to perform the mediation. It would be him (and he’s ex #2s attorney, mind you), ex #2 and me in a room, hashing things out. Can anyone else see what is so terribly wrong about that?!

So, there ya have it. Basically, she offered …….. as she …….. and didn’t hear a word I said. (bad words omitted)

  1. I don’t know what to say. In uk there is support. Your attorney waits till court day to quit? The mediation with his lawyer is surely a conflict of interest but it’s looking like your best bet now. Can you take someone with you. Maybe your quitter or a social worker? Or just a clever friend who will have your back? Get it over with. But I am staggered at the injustice.

    • Misconception. Yesterday was about answering why I did not attend mediation. It could have been worse. She gave me “grace” in giving me a second chance.

Mediation is about just the two parties with a mediator. No one else.

    Hope it works out.
