Jen is Turning Twenty Four!

About 2 weeks ago, I started plotting and planning Jen’s birthday present. I decided to do a “Turning Twenty” quilt and make it the purple she loves but add a splash of other colors to give her options later in life. A week after I started it (I had to work slowly because she was ALWAYS AROUND), she made a comment about me getting the “Blood Red” quilt on my bed. She mentioned, ever so nicely (and yes, I mean that), that she really wants me to make her one but didn’t want to be rude about it. I reminded her that I’d only made 3 Queen-Size quilts, to date, and it’ll just take time. She tried to be polite about it but you could tell her feelings were hurt.

I asked ex #1 if I should just tell her what I had already made for her and he said, “No. Let her go on. She’ll regret it on October 13th.” So, I have kept my mouth shut. Poor Jen.

I am writing this on September 27th. I’ve finished her quilt top and I want to post my thoughts about it before I forget. I tried to take pictures but, for some reason, the pictures don’t show the rich lavender/purple and green colors. I’m very sad about that and we’ll see if I can get better pictures later. Well, I finished it except for the two borders I want to add to it.

I made Jen a Turning Twenty blanket. However, since I had 24 fat quarters, it’s going to be a “Turning Twenty-Four” blanket. I find that hilarious, seeing as she’s turning twenty four on October 13th. I’m setting this up to post on October 12th at 11:00 p.m. I figure, by then, she’ll have her blanket and it won’t be a secret any more.

I really wish I could show you the true colors. I’ll try to get more pictures and schedule that post to come right after this one on October 13th.

I threw her out of the house today and finished putting all 24 blocks together. I need to find the borders and the backing and it’ll be done. I just have to figure out what else to put with it. Can’t just give her a blanket! I need to find a way to make her entire room match with her quilt. Or, at least, her bed. They don’t sell this fabric anymore, to my knowledge. I spent most of the day looking. A quilt store in Pocatello, two in Blackfoot and then 3 in Idaho Falls. I’m going to have to get creative, I can tell.

However, at least the top is nearly complete and ready for the quilter. I told him I needed it back by October 13th. If I can get the borders on and purchase the backing by next week, he’ll have it all done and ready. And yes, I am paying to have the binding put on.]

Happy Birthday, Jen! I hope you loved your surprise,

  1. Great surprise! The colours are lovely. Hope she liked it!

    • From all she said, she loves it. The colors, the style. All of it. 🙂

      Thank you!

      • That’s great! I saw a pattern for a table runner in a quilting magazine recently that used very similar colours, and bookmarked it for a possible second project (my first being a queen size quilt which I’m working on at the moment – a bit ambitious but I’m making slow progress).

I am currently prowling through your own blog. I see some amazing work. I’ll be going through a lot of it and getting inspiration as I go.

Again, thank you for stopping by!
